What do you think?

What do you think of this crazy shower curtain from Anthropologie? Is it too much? Would your husbands have a cow if you put this in the bathroom?

I'm really loving that square sink. What about you? Too weird? Would that be a pain to clean? Now I am imagining Moscow's hard water stains in the corners and suddenly I don't love it so much. I'd have to keep a gallon of vinegar on the counter. :)

The Guest Bathroom

We have a funky guest bathroom. It is one of those spaces that I would have looked at and thought "closet" but someone else thought they could fit a bathroom in it. It is separated with a pocket door into two spaces: the laundry/shower space and the toilet/sink space. So here I am, stuck with a funky room. The only solution is to make it bold.

I have a stacked washer and dryer that hide behind this lovely shower curtain from Pottery Barn. It is working well for now. I threw some white paint on the wall to cover the light yellow that was in there before.

I picked up the red in the shower curtain and painted the second half of the bathroom in Burnt Peanut. It is very red and dark and I like it - this picture really doesn't show how pretty this red is. Since the front half of the bathroom is white, the red isn't overpowering. Now for some bright white trim and a new light fixture....and that shelf needs some attention other than the strip of painters tape that is covering a heart....yikes so much to do!

Bath Towels

Are you sick of the bathroom posts yet? Besides the kitchen, the bathroom is one of the most complicated rooms in the house. With minimal accessories, they really have to count for something.

Amy Butler (found at Bed, Bath, and Beyond) carries some of the prettiest bath towels you will find:Turkish Towels (found at Restoration Hardware) are the softest out there, plus they come in every color.

Raised Bathtubs

Twenty years ago, sunken tubs were very popular. If a bathroom was over another room, it was necessary to build a platform around the sunken tub. These can sometimes still be very tastefully done.

Here's a little un-tasteful thing for you. I couldn't resist.

This is a much more current approach to "raised" tubs, although maybe not in pink.

Using wood in bathrooms

I'm not a huge fan of wood in bathrooms, but some people love it. Plus many cabinets in bathrooms are wood. For best moisture resistance and longetivity choose redwood as it is the most moisture resistant. Also, be sure to choose kiln dried wood if you can - it will stay dryer.

Vessel Sinks

Vessel sinks are so beautiful. They are easy to mount on an old vanity, making a beautiful vintage feature. Here are a few of my favorites. One thing to be sure to take note of when installing a vessel sink: make sure your faucet points down instead of at an angle. If you have an angle, you'll end up with water everywhere every time you turn on the sink.

Mosaics

I've always really liked the idea of doing a mosiac with the tiling in a bathroom. It's easier with smaller tiles and best done in neutral colors in case you want to change the color scheme.

Tiling a bathroom

When putting together a bathroom, it is obviously always good to think about moisture control. Nobody wants a bathroom that has mold. And wouldn't it be nice to wipe down every surface easily?

The "vintage" approach that you see in many old houses is tiling halfway up the wall. While this leaves room for a color or pattern on the top part of the wall, it doesn't solve the moisture problem.

And this one isn't even tiled, just wood panels. Pretty, but not very practical.

I'm all for tiling all the way up the walls.

And speaking of mirrors, check out this mirrored tub.

One thing that I haven't seen much, and I couldn't even find a picture, is tiling the ceiling. But who wants to do the work? I would recommend going with sheet tile backsplashes on the ceiling. They are light and would be easy to place above your head, plus moisture proof.

Bathroom Sinks

Stripes in the bathroom

I'm not sure why I've been so obsessed with bathroom design lately. I guess it's because there is so much potential in bathrooms, and it's ok to go a little crazy. One thing that I have seen alot is stripes in bathrooms. And why not? Everyone likes a clean looking bathroom, and a stripe is the cleanest line you will find.

This striped chair is adorable, but that's an interesting choice for the sconce.

Making a design with the tile...

I like the pairing of balloon shades and bold stripes, but it does resound of icecream shop. I'm not sure if that's the mood you want to set in a bathroom...

This is a great idea for those tiny, under-the-stairs, half baths that have no room for interesting furniture. Honeycomb tile floors - good choice, bamboo shade - good choice, but I think I see the corner of a brown toilet seat (yikes!) and the light fixture needs to be replaced...

Tile walls

While I'm not crazy about the black in this bathroom, I do love the idea of tiling all the way up the walls in a bathroom. It's pretty and practical.

Bathroom remodel

This was featured in BHG recently. I like how they kept the mood and style of the bathroom but changed the look completely - from ugly to pretty, but still frilly and feminine.

Fab Shower Curtains

I just got my Real Simple in the mail. This is going to be a good morning. Coffee and Real Simple.

Just the other day, I was discussing shower curtains with a friend, and how there is a serious lack of good ones in stores.

Real Simple to the rescue. Here are three of their top recommends.

Amy Butler Also check out some of Amy's other designs at Bed, Bath and Beyond. They are awesome!

And, my personal favorite, of course Echo Design.
