Pillows

Mid winter is such an annoying time to decorate- no holidays and the weather is usually pretty dreary.  I like to mix up the colors around the house with a few throw pillows.  Here are some gems from
Pier 1.  I especially like the peacock.  It's just silly and fun.

I still haven't figured out a way to have throw pillows and children successfully in the same house.  But I try anyway, even if the pillows are usually on the floor.

Inspiration from Textiles

Sorry for the long absence, but what kind of blog would this be without a few of those apologies, right?  I have no excuses.  I've just been busy doing all the things that I like more than being on the computer.  But on to the subject at hand....inspiration from textiles!  Yes!  This is something that interior designers do all the time.  It's a little secret trick that really isn't that much of a secret.  When you're looking to pick the colors and designs for a room, try visiting the fabric store first.  Pick out a fabric that you love - you have to love the combination of colors, and the ratio of colors.  Do you want something that is mostly pink, or something that just has a splash of pink?  Go ahead and get a swatch of the fabric.  Even if you never use it in the space, it will be your go-to color palette.  You can use any colors on the fabric and know they will work well together.  You can carry the fabric in your purse and pull it out when shopping for accessories.  If you pick a fabric that has a light background, go with an airy color on the walls.  It will give the same vibe as the fabric.  Making sense?  It really simplifies alot of the decision making process and helps to focus your design plan.

Etsy Finds

Look what I found on Etsy today.  The details are beautiful and I love the splash of color.  I am always a fan of birds in decor - good shape, good color, good texture.

Private Quarters

As I have studied Interior Design over the past few years, Private Quarters has risen to the top of my linen list. Their products are top quality and very affordable. But really it was my daughter who got me started as a Private Quarters consultant. I went to a PQ party one evening and entered "Northwoods Throw in Ivory" on my wishlist. It really was a wish. We had were in the middle of buying the house and luxury items were not top priority. But a few weeks later I got a package in the mail from the consultant who had thrown the local party - it was the Northwoods Throw in Ivory for free! I couldn't believe it. I wrapped my very active little toddler up in it and she feel asleep within ten minutes - and slept for three long hours. It was magic. Where could I get more of this magic? If it made my sleep-fighting daughter sleep like an angel, what would it do for me, an individual who is regularly dreaming of more sleep? After looking into the company a little more I decided to represent them as a consultant. Their products are beautiful, soft, luxurious, affordable, and they last forever! My calender is filling up with PQ parties - I can't wait to show everyone how amazing these linens are. Plus the company offers successful party hosts a free item of their choice and several half priced items! Who wouldn't want to host a party?

Jacquard

...a machine weaving method of creating fabric that permits the introduction of different patterns and designs within the weave itself. In 1802, Joseph-Marie Jacquard invented a loom attachment to automatically control th weaving to produce complex patterns and designs within the weave. This was the first time a pattern had been imprinted onto a machine-made fabric without the use of stamping. All other weaves had previously been done by hand. Jacquards are quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to add subtle texture to a pallet. The weave is not as heavy as an embroidery, but much more textured than a simple stamped or dyed pattern.

Serafina by Pottery Barn

This is a lovely pattern that Pottery Barn came out with 3 years ago. It continues to be one of my favorite. I actually have the shower curtain that matches this bedspread in my guest bathroom. It instantly takes an otherwise boring room to beautiful. You can go crazy with this pattern and pair it with plaids, stripes, or bold colored walls. Or, just let it speak for itself and put it in a room like the one above with natural tones. It is one of those pieces that is easy to switch out if you want a change because it does completely change the feel of a room.

Ikat

I am always looking for patterns that coordinate with florals, without making the palette too much like a rose garden. So, you can imagine how excited I am that Ikat is back in style. It started coming back a couple of years ago, and I wasn't sure what to think until I saw it in updated colors. With it's ancient, exotic motif I've found that it works in a variety of spaces. For a while, it could only be found in Southwestern styles, but is now coming in trendier colors. There is also a variety of "fuzziness" to choose from. If you like the cleaner line, there is still an Ikat for you.

I have a little munchkin climbing on my lap this morning, so don't blame me if you find typos. She can't resist all the bright colors on the computer....a girl after my own heart.
